The City of Chicago collects 1.45% of annual salary for a participant’s coverage in Medicare for all employees hired after April 1, 1986.
The Firemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund serves as a conduit to assist in enrolling eligible members in the City’s employer sponsored health care plans and the Aetna healthcare plan sponsored by Local 2. Both retiree healthcare plan options currently available have been approved by the Fund and the Fund has an agreement with those plans to enable the Fund to collect and forward authorized payment of premiums from your benefit check to the selected healthcare plan and to ensure that eligible participants receive the statutory subsidy required under the Illinois Pension Code. For questions about the specific healthcare plans, please use the following contact information: (1) for the City’s BCBS plan call 1-877-566-8520 if you are over 65 years of age; if you are under 65 years of age, please call 1-800-292-6398; or (2) for Local’s 2 Aetna Plan, please contact Labor First through its website at https://laborfirst.com/fire2/.
